Beginning this week, our South Street location will begin serving Anodyne Coffee. We are incredibly excited to be the first shop in Philadelphia to serve their delicious coffees, but don’t let their newness to our city fool ya — they have been around for 13 years and are pros in every sense of the word.

Hailing from Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood, Anodyne utilizes a 30 kilo Samiac roaster to produce small-batch (40 lbs) coffees which are distrubuted mainly in the midwest. They’ve has been touted in everything from Barista Magazine to Imbibe, and one of their NYC accounts was just listed in the “100 Best Coffee Shops in New York” book. You as our dedicated customer can look forward to coffee of the same excellent quality to which you are accustomed — some Fair Trade, some organic, all delicious. Our first offerings will be making their way into the rotation this weekend; drop in and let us know what you think!

Here is the starting lineup:

Guatemala Huehuetenango San Juan Microlot
A number of small volume producers from La Libertad contribute their best to this lot of beans. Grown near 1525 M, Caturra and Catuai varietals, patio dried and delicious.

El Salvador Finca San Jose
Finca San Jose is owned and operated by the Mathies and Hill families. They are third generation coffee producers that follow Rainforest Alliance Practices on their farm. Anodyne came across this coffee with the help of Aida Batlle.

Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Idido Coop
You are familiar with this delicious coffee. The Anodyne version is Fair Trade, and a honey process, meaning both washed and sun-dried beans are roasted together. It’s delicious. Grown at an altitude of 1800-2100 M.

Colombia Los Naranjos
Tasting notes of chocolate, lemon, tropical fruit, and cream. A fully-washed bean, grown in the San Agustin region at an altitude of 1,350-1,900 M by La Asociacion Los Naranjos (the association of the orange!).

Mind Tonic Espresso
This espresso blend has a warm nutty and chocolate aroma that follows with notes of bakers chocolate, slighty floral, and grapefruit citrus upon first sip. It opens up to a slight cherry, raspberry taste that has hints of almond and rich cocoa and lingers with a creamy finish.

You can check out Anodyne on their website, Facebook, or Twitter. They also have an Instagram!

Again, we are incredibly excited to bring these coffees to Philadelphia’s collective palate.

OCF Coffee House has always tried to be more than just a coffee house — part of how we diversify the options and give our customers choice is by offering a variety of loose-leaf, freshly-prepared teas. All of our teas come from the House of Tea in South Philly, so you’re supporting another local business when you purchase them from us too! Both locations rotate a few teas seasonally — here is the autumn update from the Point Breeze location.

Black Teas
Earl Grey :: black tea flavored with bergamot oil.
Buddha Cup :: basic black tea, similar to many bagged teas.
Decaf Assam :: decaf basic black tea.
Blue Lady :: black tea with notes of citrus, grapefruit, and floral.
Victorian Garden :: black and green mix with strong rose and floral notes.

Green Teas
Bancha :: basic, accessible green tea.
Chur She :: jasmine green tea.
Sun Dew :: green tea with lovely citrus notes.
Genmaicha :: infused with matcha powder, green tea with roasted brown rice.

Herbal & Fruit Teas
Apple & Cranberry :: a fruit blend with dried apples and cranberry.
Rooibos Spice :: red bush tea from South Africa, naturally decaffeinated and chock-full of antioxidants. This blend is flavored with cinnamon and orange peel.
Chamomile & Mint :: “tranquility” blend, designed to relax and soothe. Great for sore throats.
Moroccan Mint :: green tea flavored with mint oil that is a tradition in Morocco and other Northern African countries.

Click through where you see a link for more information via Wikipedia — tea is equally complex as coffee and has a rich cultural history that few study before choosing their drink at a cafe. All of these teas are available at the Point Breeze location now, so come in and give one a try.

Stay tuned for the Graduate Hospital tea list later this week.
